The Franziskaner Kellerbier is a typical bottom fermented Bavarian beer style that is unique for its natural cloudiness, amber hue & a velvety full-bodied taste. The word “Keller” in German is for “cellar” & “kellerbier” means a “cellar beer” that is very yeasty, malty lager usually from the Franconia region.

As per the oldest brewing law in the world  – The Reinheitsgebot (The Purity Law ) from 1516, this beer is brewed with four ingredients – water, malt, hops & yeast. The main ingredient in this beer is the unique yeast strain which provides the beer a soft, round & typical spicy flavour.  The noble hops give it a fine floral & herbal bouquet of aromas & some woody notes with mild bitterness unique to its terroir. With is lower carbonation levels, it offers a smooth & enjoyable tasting experience.

This is a style that is not lagered to completion meaning, it can have some natural haze which creates a much rounded & fuller beer different to the cleaner German lagers like the Hells. Historically the beer is served young, fresh & straight from the tank.
