Located in a remote corner of Inner Flanders, Brasserie du Pays Flamand produces a wide range of beers, including the 2016 World's Best Beer, Anosteké Saison.
Beer, terroir and conviviality.
To discover the Brasserie du Pays Flamand, head to Blaringhem, a village of just over 2,000 inhabitants in northern France. There you can meet the two founding brewers, who are also childhood friends, Mathieu Lesenne and Olivier Duthoit.
In November 2006, they founded this large-scale project by taking over the premises of a former distillery that was active between 1900 and 1950, and they celebrate their origins and their love for the northern region through their beer. With passion, they developed their beers Bracine, Wilde Leeuw and Anosteké, as well as other small, limited-edition brews. Each brew is an invitation to enjoy good company and allows everyone to discover traditional expertise, original flavours and new tastes.
Building on its success, La Brasserie du Pays Flamand now has a second, much larger production site in Merville, enabling it to meet ever-increasing demand. Open to collaboration with other breweries around the world, it blends cultures and ideas to come up with exceptional beers, and it is this mindset that will enable it to win the award for the best beer in the world in 2016, with the Anosteké Blonde. However, Brasserie du Pays Flamand made headlines a few years ago when its Anosteké Saison was voted best beer in its style at the 2016 World Beer Awards, no less.
Anosteké Saison is a beer in the Saison style (logically), which, once poured into a glass, reveals a pale yellow colour topped with a beautiful white head. Generous, thirst-quenching and well-balanced, it releases delicate aromas of flowers, citrus fruits, grapefruit and spices, with flavours of yeast, hops, pepper and lemon. It is well-balanced, with a hint of acidity, perfectly complementing the fine bubbles that caress the tongue.
