What about the 2025 Oktoberfest? The answer you’ve all been eagerly awaiting is revealed here. In 2019, Munich’s world-famous Oktoberfest beer festival was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. PerfectDraft tells you everything you need to know about the 2025 beer festival and how to celebrate Oktoberfest at home!
What is Oktoberfest?
Known as one of the world’s most famous beer festivals, Oktoberfest is an annual celebration held in Munich, Germany. The festival originated with the royal wedding of the future King Louis I of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. Shortly after their wedding, they organised a horse race, which became the perfect occasion to sell the local brewery’s stock. The celebration attracted many visitors and was so successful that it was repeated every year. Over time, it evolved into a national Bavarian holiday celebrating unity and tradition.
Today, the festival programme includes over 15 days of celebrations featuring parades, Bavarian food buffets, pretzels, German specialities, and above all, authentic German beer. To remain true to tradition, only breweries that comply with the German purity law are invited. This includes six historic Munich breweries: Augustiner-Bräu, Löwenbräu, Paulaner-Bräu, Hacker-Pschorr-Bräu, Spatenbräu and Staatliches Hofbräu-München.
When is Oktoberfest 2025 ?
Oktoberfest typically runs from the Saturday of the third week of September until the first Sunday in October, unless that falls before 3 October, in which case it extends until the 3rd. For 2025, Oktoberfest was scheduled from 20 September to 5 October. Unfortunately, due to the health situation, Munich’s mayor announced that the festival could not take place this year.
