What is the origin of Heineken beer ?

Heineken is one of the great beer classics! But do you know when it was founded ? This brewery is named after its founder, Gerard Adriaan Heineken. In his twenties, this Dutchman set out to create the best lager in the world. With this in mind, in December 1863 he acquired the Amsterdam brewery De Hooierg (or the haystack, in French).

It was in 1864 that he founded the Heineken company. Today, Heineken is regarded as a benchmark in lager beer, with bottom fermentation. It is one of the most widely consumed lagers in the world !
