OMG. Oh. My. Gourd. Look, we only get one chance a year roll out these kind of puns, so bear with (we’ve saved the worst till last). In an effort to creep it Halloween, we’re sure no body would want to miss out on these spooktacular beers.
In our motley bunch of frightfully good beers, we’ve conjured together a selection of Halloween beers that step into the dark side.
First brewed in 1987 in the Netherlands, La Trappe Dubble is a classic Trappist beer from La Trappe Brewing is scary good. This beer proudly earned the Gold European Beer Star in 2017 and 2018 as its malty, caramelly character continues to wow crowds. The Dubbel is pleasant on the nose, with an overall fruity aroma complemented by roasted chocolate, caramel, and vanilla. It pours a dark brown colour with a frothy ivory head. To add to its fine complexity, the Dubbel-style is bottle conditioned so you’ll be able to experience all the lovely flavours in this brew, including bready malts, dried fruits, rich chocolate, and a creamy mouthfeel.
Halloween Movie Pairing: The Haunting of Borley Rectory (2019)
Based on true events, the 2019 film takes place at the Borley Rectory, the most haunted house in England. Since its mysterious destruction by fire in 1939, the Rectory has gained infamy for frequent ghost sightings of monks and nuns. So turn out the lights, pour a La Trappe Dubbel, and let this beer comfort you as this movie reveals the ins and outs of one of the most haunted locations in existence.
Brewed by Trappist monks, Trappist beers have an extensive history passed down for generations. There are only 10 Trappist breweries in the world, and the careful selection of ingredients and preparation of recipes is something that can be tasted in each sip of these phenomenal craft brews. In addition to the La Trappe Dubbel, other popular Abbey & Trappist beers include: Bosteels Karmeliet Tripel, Rochefort 10, Brugse Zot Blond, and Westmalle Dubbel.
This popular, hoppy pale ale features notes of grapefruit, orange peel, and pine flavours carefully balanced with light biscuity malts and a spritzy carbonation. This is a go-to beer that tastes great as the seasons change from autumn to winter, making it ideal for Halloween festivities. If you’re having a few mates over, you can’t go wrong with the Dead Pony Club pale ale from Brewdog Brewing.

Halloween Movie Pairing: Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
For the production that keeps everyone coming back year after year, this movie and beer complement each other nicely.
Pale Ales and IPAs are crowd pleasers as the citrusy notes pair boo-tifully with all types of foods and even Halloween candy. Some other citrus-forward options include: Wild Beer Co Pogo, Tiny Rebel Dutty, and Amundsen Everyday Hero IPA.
