OMG. Oh. My. Gourd. Look, we only get one chance a year roll out these kind of puns, so bear with (we’ve saved the worst till last). In an effort to creep it Halloween, we’re sure no body would want to miss out on these spooktacular beers.
In our motley bunch of frightfully good beers, we’ve conjured together a selection of Halloween beers that step into the dark side.
First brewed in 1987 in the Netherlands, La Trappe Dubble is a classic Trappist beer from La Trappe Brewing is scary good. This beer proudly earned the Gold European Beer Star in 2017 and 2018 as its malty, caramelly character continues to wow crowds. The Dubbel is pleasant on the nose, with an overall fruity aroma complemented by roasted chocolate, caramel, and vanilla. It pours a dark brown colour with a frothy ivory head. To add to its fine complexity, the Dubbel-style is bottle conditioned so you’ll be able to experience all the lovely flavours in this brew, including bready malts, dried fruits, rich chocolate, and a creamy mouthfeel.
Halloween Movie Pairing: The Haunting of Borley Rectory (2019)
Based on true events, the 2019 film takes place at the Borley Rectory, the most haunted house in England. Since its mysterious destruction by fire in 1939, the Rectory has gained infamy for frequent ghost sightings of monks and nuns. So turn out the lights, pour a La Trappe Dubbel, and let this beer comfort you as this movie reveals the ins and outs of one of the most haunted locations in existence.
Brewed by Trappist monks, Trappist beers have an extensive history passed down for generations. There are only 10 Trappist breweries in the world, and the careful selection of ingredients and preparation of recipes is something that can be tasted in each sip of these phenomenal craft brews. In addition to the La Trappe Dubbel, other popular Abbey & Trappist beers include: Bosteels Karmeliet Tripel, Rochefort 10, Brugse Zot Blond, and Westmalle Dubbel.
This popular, hoppy pale ale features notes of grapefruit, orange peel, and pine flavours carefully balanced with light biscuity malts and a spritzy carbonation. This is a go-to beer that tastes great as the seasons change from autumn to winter, making it ideal for Halloween festivities. If you’re having a few mates over, you can’t go wrong with the Dead Pony Club pale ale from Brewdog Brewing.
Eat, drink, and be scary with the pale ale everyone is batty about.
Halloween Movie Pairing: Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
For the production that keeps everyone coming back year after year, this movie and beer complement each other nicely.
Pale Ales and IPAs are crowd pleasers as the citrusy notes pair boo-tifully with all types of foods and even Halloween candy. Some other citrus-forward options include: Wild Beer Co Pogo, Tiny Rebel Dutty, and Amundsen Everyday Hero IPA.
No tricks. Only treats with the Weird Beard Black Perle stout from Weird Beard Brew Co. This craft beer is a 3.8% ABV coffee milk stout with notes of dark chocolate, ground coffee, and a sweet tang from lactose. Move over Halloween candy – there’s a new player in town.
Halloween Movie Pairing: The entire Harry Potter series
A beer as magical as the Black Perle goes great with the timeless magic of the Harry Potter movies. Pick your favourite movie in the series or make a day out of it; especially since we’re all locked inside during the pandemic, anyway!
Stouts are basically the candy of beer, so Halloween is the best time to indulge in everything these rich brews have to offer. Some customer favourites include: Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Milk Stout Nitro, Magic Rock Common Grounds Coffee Porter, and Siren Broken Dream Stout. And if you just can’t decide, why not try them all? Check out the acclaimed Porters and Stouts Mixed Beer Case.
If you’re planning to enjoy this year’s Halloween festivities without alcohol, there are plenty of low and no-alcohol beers to choose from. We recommend Adnams Ghost Ship pale ale for Halloween. Can it get any spookier than a ghost ship? This beer pour copper-gold and boasts flavours of bready malts and citrus – everything a good pale ale should have! Other popular low and no alcohol craft beers include: Jever Fun lager, Erdinger Alkoholfrei, and Bitburger Drive.
Halloween Movie Pairing: Jaws (1975)
A classic horror movie by any standards, the 1975 ocean-themed thriller pairs wonderfully with a Ghost Ship for a Halloween that won’t soon be forgotten. No matter what your plans are for the spookiest occasion of the year, there’s sure to be a craft beer for everyone. Sit back, crack open a beer, make some popcorn, and enjoy a horror flick on Halloween!
So go ahead and trick or treat yo’self with our fangtastic array if misfits to make your Halloween go with a bang. See, you can't skele-run from our skele-puns. Sigh. Sorry about the last one.
Happy Haunting!
