Adrienne – Bosteels brewery

Bosteels Bbewery

With a history spanning more than 200 years and seven generations, Bosteels Brewery has become one of Belgium’s most iconic brewers. While its origins date back to 1791, it was in 1938, under the guidance of Antoine Bosteels, that the brewery began to flourish. Over the next 50 years, Antoine developed a Pilsner that became a regional favourite before shifting focus to more distinctive creations such as Kwak, Tripel Karmeliet and Deus.

Today, the brewery pays tribute to family heritage with Adrienne, a Belgian Pale Ale brewed with elderflower. The beer honours Adrienne Van Eecke, a fifth-generation family member remembered for her strong will, hard work and passion for good living.

Belgian Pale Ale style

At the height of the Pilsner boom between 1800 and 1900, Belgian brewers pushed back by developing an alternative: Belgian Pale Ale. Also known as Special Belge, this top-fermented beer drew inspiration from British Pale Ale while incorporating Belgian yeast strains. Typically pale to coppery in colour, it delivers biscuity malt flavours, balanced by moderate hop bitterness and a dry finish. Rounded, malty and subtly spicy from the yeast, Belgian Pale Ale is both distinctive and deeply rooted in Belgian brewing tradition.

Adrienne tasting notes

Adrienne pours a bright golden colour with a thick, creamy white head. Aromas of fresh flowers, cereals and white bread rise from the glass, enhanced by the delicate fragrance of elderflower added during fermentation. Hints of white currant acidity add freshness and complexity. On the palate, honeyed malt sweetness spreads smoothly, blending with floral notes and delicate layers of sugar, breadcrumbs, wheat, cumin and wild flowers. Perfectly balanced and lighter than many beers of this style, Adrienne is a refined Belgian Pale Ale with a smooth, approachable character.

Food pairing

Adrienne pairs beautifully with sauerkraut, charcuterie, sausages, lamb chops, pork tenderloin, roast chicken, cod with herbs, or classic fish & chips. A versatile Belgian ale for both traditional and modern dishes.
