How was beer created ?

It was created by chance. If the inscriptions on a Sumerian tablet are anything to go by, its very first manufacture was not dreamt up by an inhabitant of that Mesopotamian region in what is now southern Iraq.

It is rather a matter of happy circumstance. The Sumerians made and stored cakes and breads from barley. When it came time to eat them, they had to soak them in water to eat them, as part of their meal.

A Sumerian would then have omitted to remove his bread from the water. Under the action of fermentation and natural yeasts, it then turned into beer.

Employed in this region of Mesopotamia, the Akkadian referred to this invention by its very name! Liquid bread thus made it possible to call the very first beer in the world, with the word sikaru. The term then spread to other Asian countries.
