Oktoberfest beer hot dog
For this hot dog recipe, we recommend selecting a beer from our Oktoberfest beer selection, such as an American Amber or a Märzen. We’ve chosen Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen brewed by the Brauerei Heller. This German dark beer delivers a unique bouquet of smoky and woody notes, perfect for enhancing hot dogs. This recipe serves 4, but feel free to adjust quantities as needed. Allow 15 minutes for prep and about 10 minutes for cooking.
Ingredients for 4 people:
- 4 hot dog buns
- 4 Bavarian sausages
- 1 dark beer
- 1 onion
- 1 tbsp mustard
- 1 tsp paprika
- 3 tbsp mayonnaise
- Lettuce leaves
- Cherry tomatoes
- Cheese slices
Oven cooking
Start by finely chopping the onion. Use a toothpick to prick the sausages, allowing the beer to infuse better. In a pan, sauté the onions for a few minutes, then add the sausages. After 4–5 minutes, pour in the beer, bring to a boil, then reduce to a low heat and simmer for a few more minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare your sauce. Mix the mustard, mayonnaise, and paprika in a bowl and refrigerate. Remove the sausages from the pan. If they’ve absorbed too much beer, dab them with a paper towel.
Preheat the oven to 180°C. Warm the hot dog buns according to package instructions. Then, insert the sausages and cheese slices into the buns and heat them for a few more minutes. Remove, top with sauce, lettuce, and cherry tomatoes, and serve!

Barbecue cooking
September might still offer some barbecue days, so here’s how to adapt this recipe for the grill!
Follow the first four preparation steps above. Then, preheat your Weber barbecue and place the sausages on the grill. Cook them to your preferred level of doneness. Toast the buns briefly, then place a cheese slice on each sausage to melt. Add the sausage to the bun and top with sauce, lettuce, and cherry tomatoes. Enjoy!
