Thanks to historians, the region of origin and date of manufacture of the first beer has been clearly established. It is located in the city of Uruk, in Mesopotamia. This region corresponds to the south of present-day Iraq.
They established this origin thanks to clay tablets, mentioning the recipe for the first beer. The drink was made from barley bread that had been soaked in water for too long. Under the effect of fermentation and natural yeasts, this water was then transformed into beer a few thousand years ago.

It should be noted that the Sumerians, living in this eastern region, had the custom of producing their bread and barley cakes before storing them. These therefore became very dry and had to be softened in contact with water before being shared during a meal.
Thus, the term sikaru was first used to refer to the name of beer before. It is an Akkadian language word. It can be translated as "liquid bread".
