The Story of Saint Feuillien

The story of Saint Feuillien dates back to around 650 AD, when the Irish monk left his homeland to spread Christianity across Europe. After preaching in England and France, he eventually arrived in Nivelles, in present-day Belgium. Tragically, during a visit to Saint Gertrude, he and his companions were attacked and killed by bandits. Beheaded, his remains were hidden in a pigsty and discovered months later before being returned to Nivelles Abbey.

A cross was erected at the site of his martyrdom, attracting so many pilgrims that a chapel was later built. In 1125, Premonstratensian monks constructed an abbey on the site. The abbey stood for centuries before being destroyed during the French Revolution in 1796.

The Birth of the Saint-Feuillien Brewery

Founded in 1873 by Stéphanie Friart in Le Rœulx, the Saint-Feuillien Brewery has become one of Belgium’s most respected family breweries. Brewing activities expanded in the early 20th century, with a range of styles including stout, saison and pale ale. In 1952, the brewery created its flagship Saint-Feuillien Blonde and Brune, followed by the famous Saint-Feuillien Cuvée de Noël in 1969.

Over the decades, the brewery has modernised its facilities while preserving traditional Belgian brewing methods. Its portfolio has grown to include Saint-Feuillien Triple, Grisette Blanche and the more recent Belgian Coast IPA. In 2017, the brewery opened a dedicated Grand Cru room to meet increasing demand for complex, high-quality Belgian beers.

With such a diverse selection, every beer lover is sure to find a favourite.
