Spinning Plates, from Tiny Rebel Brewery

After presenting Delicatessen beer and Monsieur Chouette beer, today, we’re heading to the United Kingdom to discover a collaboration between two renowned craft breweries: Tiny Rebel from Wales and Magic Rock from England. Together, they created today’s featured beer: Spinning Plates.

Spinning Plates – Tiny Rebel x Magic Rock

Tiny Rebel Brewery

Tiny Rebel is a Welsh microbrewery based in Newport, a vibrant city in the south of the country known for its lively nightlife and iconic bridges. The brewery was founded by two friends and amateur brewers who started experimenting in a garage. Gazz taught his friend Brad everything he knew about brewing before they began developing recipes and planning their future in craft beer.

According to the founders, one of the most challenging steps was choosing a name and logo. The concept behind “Tiny Rebel” reflects their desire to stand apart from traditional breweries while embracing creativity, fun and a rebellious spirit. Their brand identity combines urban culture, graffiti influences and a passion for brewing innovative beers that connect with modern craft beer lovers.

Magic Rock Brewery

Inspired by local brewing traditions and the evolution of American craft beer, Magic Rock Brewing was founded in 2011 in Huddersfield by Richard Burhouse. Located in a former family building, the brewery quickly gained recognition for its innovative approach and commitment to quality.

Magic Rock describes its beers as “same but different”: familiar styles enhanced with a unique twist. Their creations are intense, accessible and characterful, reflecting American craft beer culture while enriching the British brewing scene. With bold design by local artist Rich Norgate and flavour-forward recipes, Magic Rock has earned its place among the world’s top craft breweries.

Milkshake IPA Style

Milkshake IPAs may not be traditional, but they are one of the most popular modern craft beer trends. This creative style encourages brewers to experiment with lactose, fruit, spices and innovative hop combinations, often producing beers that resemble thick, flavourful smoothies. Milkshake and smoothie IPAs are sub-styles of New England IPA, known for their hazy appearance and full-bodied texture.

The style gained popularity around 2015 when Omnipollo began describing certain releases as smoothie IPAs. Collaborating with Omnipollo, they created an IPA brewed with oats, wheat and lactose, then fermented with fruit and vanilla before being heavily dry-hopped. The result was a rich, fruit-forward beer with citrus aromas and moderate bitterness softened by a creamy body.

Spinning Plates

Tiny Rebel and Magic Rock have embraced the Milkshake IPA style with their collaborative creation, Spinning Plates. Brewed with wheat and fruit purée, this beer pours a golden-yellow colour topped with a hazy white head. The nose bursts with tropical aromas of mango, pineapple, citrus and guava.

On the palate, it is juicy, smooth and intensely fruity. Lactose adds roundness and softens the hop bitterness, creating a balanced and indulgent flavour profile. The result is a vibrant and refreshing craft beer that perfectly reflects the creativity of both breweries.

Food Pairing

Rich and flavourful, this Milkshake IPA can be enjoyed on its own or paired with desserts thanks to its fruity character. Serve in a Teku or tulip glass at a temperature of 6–8°C for the best tasting experience.
