La Virgen: a thriving Spanish craft brewery
Located in the heart of the Spanish capital, the La Virgen brewery was founded by three passionate beer lovers: Ana, César and Jaime. They met while working at an advertising agency in San Francisco and, within a few years, became the founders of one of Europe’s most dynamic craft breweries. The idea for La Virgen was born in 2009, and the following year they returned to Madrid with a clear ambition: to bring high-quality craft beer to the Spanish market.
The project moved quickly. In 2011, they launched their brewery and first brewpub and released their first beer: a refreshing lager. This malty blonde beer, with low alcohol content, immediately appealed to local beer lovers for its balanced and thirst-quenching character.
In 2012, La Virgen installed its first tap and opened its initial production site, producing around 1,000 litres. Just two years later, in 2014, production had exceeded 200,000 litres, prompting the team to move to a new facility capable of producing over one million litres annually. Today, La Virgen exports its beers internationally and produces close to four million litres each year. With a dedicated team of around 50 people, the brewery continues to grow and share its passion for premium craft beer with the global craft beer community.
