The White Hag brewery
Known for St. Patrick’s Day, leprechauns, and Guinness, Ireland is also home to many innovative craft breweries—among them The White Hag, an independent brewery inspired by myths, legends, and traditional brewing styles.
To visit The White Hag, you’ll need to travel to Sligo, a county capital whose Gaelic name Sligeach means “abounding in shells.” The brewery’s name comes from an old Anglo-Saxon legend: the “hag,” a supernatural figure often depicted as an old witch with dark powers. Traditionally, she was described as a green-skinned crone who captured children and dragged them to watery graves—not exactly cheerful folklore.
Thankfully, The White Hag embraces a more positive interpretation: the embodiment of Mother Nature, uniting water, earth, and sea. This tribute to Irish mythology shapes the brewery’s identity, with beers often named after myths and legendary figures.
Founded at the end of 2013, The White Hag brought together a diverse team from two continents. Ambitious and forward-thinking, it became Sligo’s first brewery in over a century. Since then, the team has expanded alongside the range of beers, developing stouts, IPAs, barley wines, sours, and an impressive oak barrel-aging program.

In just a few years, The White Hag has made its mark on the craft beer scene. It even launched its own festival—Hagstravaganza—featuring more than 90 beers on 23 taps, with breweries from across the globe.
Little Fawn
Little Fawn, meaning “young deer,” tells the tale of a child wandering through forests and mountains near Ben Bulben, discovered by Bran and Sceolan, the hounds of legendary warrior Fionn Mac Cumhaill. The story continues with another beer named after the dogs themselves. Little Fawn is a refreshing session IPA, pale yellow in color, bursting with hop-driven notes of citrus, peach, and malt—a perfect thirst-quencher.

Atlantean
Atlantean takes its name from the myth of Atlas and Atlantis, the legendary island drowned in a cataclysm by Zeus. Inspired by mythical sea voyages beyond the ninth wave, this NEIPA (New England India Pale Ale) is brewed with lactose for a creamy, soft body reminiscent of ocean foam. Its hazy yellow-orange appearance delivers juicy aromas of hops, herbs, mandarin, orange, and nectarine.
The Púca Dry-hopped lemon Sour apricot
The Púca, like the banshee or leprechaun, is a figure from Irish folklore—shapeshifting between horse, goblin, spirit, or hound. Embracing this mystical theme, The White Hag created a sour beer brewed with wild yeast for a magical twist. Tart and fruity, it balances flavors of apricot and lemon with refreshing complexity, offering surprises with every sip.
