Why is my PerfectDraft beer foamy ?

If your PerfectDraft beer is coming out too foamy, there are various common reasons, most of which are related to temperature, handling, or setup. The PerfectDraft system is designed to pour beers with just the right amount of head, but when conditions aren’t optimal, excess foam can occur.

The most frequent reason is temperature. The PerfectDraft machine is calibrated to chill beer to an ideal serving temperature of 3°C (37.4°F). If the keg of beer hasn’t been cooled long enough before pouring—especially if it was recently inserted warm—it can produce a very foamy pour. Even though the display might read 3°C, the liquid inside the kegs may still be warmer, especially if you started pouring right after placing the keg into the machine. For best results, pre-chill the keg in the fridge for 12–24 hours before inserting it.

Another usual reason is incorrect pouring technique. Make sure your glass is clean (free from soap residue or grease), and all the time pour at a 45-degree angle, gradually straightening the glass as it fills. Pouring too quickly or at the wrong angle can churn the beer and cause excess foam.

In addition, movement or shaking of the keg before or during installation can lead to excessive foam. Let the keg of beer settle if it has been transported recently. Also, check that the tap line is correctly connected and free of air pockets or leaks, which can disrupt pressure and foam balance.

In conclusion, some beer styles naturally foam more than others, especially wheat beers or highly carbonated Belgian ales. To prevent excessive foam with PerfectDraft: pre-chill your keg, pour gently with a clean glass, and ensure the system is properly set up and undisturbed. With the right preparation, you’ll enjoy perfect pints all the time.
